Depletion Region – «Granular Dominions 1»

Depletion Region - «Granular Dominions 1»Cat.# … DNA 168
Release Date … 21.02.2015
Genre … Experimental, Ambient
Type … FLAC Lossless

Some time ago DNA Production announced «music of micro-worlds», and now it widens at the new level of more complex matters, to some granular dominions. Here physical processes find their audio expressions. Every particle, atom, molecule find a voice to complete a choir which could describe in sonic form any process occurring within and between complex compounds whether it be stone, water, air or metal.

Here ambient soundscapes are limited to the micro world boundaries. They merge together with the aid of short electroacoustic-like sonic links as well as atoms join complex molecular compounds. Sonic compounds form sound granules. Granules interact on their own level and create new sounds – vibrating drones, short clicks, pulsing loops, and music of continuing physical processes still sounds…

Кромешна – «Ветряки»

Кромешна - «Ветряки»Cat.# … DNA 167
Release Date … 11.02.2015
Genre … Drone Ambient, Field Recordings
Type … FLAC Lossless

Кромешна gets back to DNA Production with another murky and deep work, a snapshot of the world around – at this time and at this place. 37-minute-long piece of hum, noise and hubbub from working windmill’s machinery with bird’s twittering in the fields around – that’s «Ветряки», windmills in Russian.

«Ветряки» is not just a field recording. On the contrary, this is self-sufficient system full of industrial noises and heavy drones. That’s a particular feature peculiar to Kromeshna/Кромешна. This project’s works are always uneasy and always gazing into itself inviting a listener to look inside it and inside yourself as well.

Tracklisting:

  1. Кромешна – Ветряки (36:58)

Berthelot – «Mécanique Des Limbes»

Berthelot - «Mécanique Des Limbes»Cat.# … DNA 166
Release Date … 02.02.2015
Genre … Electroacoustic, Post-Concrete
Type … FLAC Lossless

In French language, the word «limbe» (singular) represents the tangible in the fields of Astronomy (the disk edge of a celestial body), of Botany (the broad and flattened part of a leaf), and of the Mechanical Precision (the circular or semicircular edge engraved of a measuring instrument).

In the plural, «limbes», the word falls in both literary and psychological fields of abstractions. It becomes pale and dull (in speaking of a light), or it turns into uncertain states and touches the unconscious and the unreal.

If some people leave their dreams in the limbo of the awakening to better forget them, Berthelot strives to explore these limbo to facilitate the memory of his dreams. The sounds of «Mécanique des limbes» show this exploration in the uncertain states of awakening, where the real and the unreal are merged.

Recorded in January 2014 somewhere in France.

Sleeve desigh by Berthelot & Graph’Hypnotic.

Tracklisting:

  1. Berthelot – Mécanique Des Limbes I (12:06)

Kolpakopf – «ХРОNOФАГIA»

Kolpakopf - «ХРОNOФАГIA»Cat.# … DNA 165
Release Date … 21.01.2015
Genre … Dark Ambient
Type … FLAC Lossless

ХРОNOФАГIA means chronophagia in Ancient Greek. When naming his work with such word, Kolpakopf was inspired by «J. H. Obereit’s Visit to the Time-Leeches», a mystical story by Austrian expressionist writer Gustav Meyrink. In his reflections about nature of time Kolpakopf turned to this short story about weird journey in the world beyond where all people are distortedly reflected in some time-leeches. These disgusting creatures are devouring «time», a mystical essence of life sucked from respective people when these people are in expectation of something to be happened in their lives. The idea of the story is that every expectation or hope experienced by people leads to leaking that «time essence» from them and this constant leakage just like a bleeding eventually kills people because their lives are clots of thickened time.

Kolpakopf talks about that journey to the world of chronophages in his usual manner of meditative dark ambient whose coldness and transparency are emphasized by hand bells samples running all through the work.

So welcome to the world of time-leeches. Hurry to banish your hopes if you want to visit once your own gravestone and see that strange motto «VIVO» engraved there.

Tracklisting:

  1. Kolpakopf – Untitled (31:58)

Meho – «Brojevi»

Meho - «Brojevi»Cat.# … DNA 164
Release Date … 13.01.2015
Genre … Drone, Dark Ambient
Type … FLAC Lossless

«Brojevi» means «Numbers» so this work consists of four tracks called respectively «Dva» («Two»), «Pet» («Five»), «Osam» («Eight»), and «Deset» («Ten»).

Meho presents them as drone tracks but the opening «Dva» reveals elements of dark ambient and post-industrial floating in viscous drone layers of various opacity. «Pet» differs in the mood but follows «Dva» in mixing dark ambient elements and deceleratedly pulsing drone loops accompanied with industrial noises. «Osam» adds some high-frequency consonances to emphasize seething ultra-low-frequency drone depths whose bottomlessness was suddenly pierced with those well-known industrial noises. «Deset» summarizes previous tendencies designing complex construction of multi-directional drone flows and synthetic and/or industrial sounds encapsulated in short loops.

Tracklisting:

  1. Meho – Dva (14:00)
  2. Meho – Pet (12:00)
  3. Meho – Osam (16:00)
  4. Meho – Deset (14:00)

Igl00 & lost-radio – «Untitled Scenes III»

Igl00 & lost-radio - «Untitled Scenes III»Cat.# … DNA 163
Release Date … 30.10.2014
Genre … Isolationism, Drone Ambient
Type … FLAC Lossless

Isolationist project Igl00 continues his «Untitled Scenes» line with the third in a row new work called simply «Untitled Scenes III». This time Igl00 shares the album with another ambient project lost-radio: odd tracks are by Igl00 and even ones are by lost-radio.

In «Untitled Scenes III» Igl00’s isolationist approach has changed, and his two tracks sound louder, brighter, more expressive. Now it looks like closer to elemental drone ambient textures balancing upon vast cloudy fields of cold isolationist hum. While the basic drones accompanied by obsessively repeated rustles flow free in «Scene VII», in «Scene IX» amorphous cold drones slowly absorb simple harmonies’ remnants.

lost-radio’s part of the album is less isolationist and much closer to straight drone ambient – a noisy reverberant drone ambient, if you like. There are same amorphous but much more aggressive drones form low-frequency flow with ultra slow development, and both tracks look like frozen stream with a few tiny foreign sound elements encapsulated.

Tracklisting:

  1. Igl00 – Scene VII (07:32)
  2. lost-radio – Scene VIII (08:00)
  3. Igl00 – Scene IX (05:35)
  4. lost-radio – Scene X (08:04)

Red Fog – «Exodus To The Land Of The Drone»

Red Fog - «Exodus To The Land Of The Drone»Cat.# … DNA 162
Release Date … 21.10.2014
Genre … Drone Ambient
Type … FLAC Lossless

«Exodus To The Land Of The Drone» looks like another move in Red Fog’s drifting between severe uneasy drone ambient and something like «micro-sound» ambient which was presented in previous (for DNA Production) Red Fog’s work called «Zone Of Avoidance».

The title speaks for itself: here Red Fog turns to his trademark, to the lengthy recurrent loops of heavy-breathing drones which soak everything around with low-frequency rumbling. Sometimes these drone layers find themselves massively pierced with crisp micro sounds of industrial origin. Sometimes they overwhelm, stun, deafen with multiply resonated hum fragments well-mixed and thrown straight in your face.

Each track presents its own sound snapshot of an inorganic world living its life quietly or loud. Find there soundtracks to various processes which occur right now in a tiny stone, metal piece, liquid drop or in a vast star system.

Tracklisting:

  1. Red Fog – Castle Of Condensation (17:03)
  2. Red Fog – The Quiet Magnetar (16:14)
  3. Red Fog – Volans Disruption (14:38)
  4. Red Fog – Cinder Petals (18:24)

Marc-Henri Arfeux – «Chromatic Travels»

Marc-Henri Arfeux - «Chromatic Travels»Cat.# … DNA 161
Release Date … 26.09.2014
Genre … Abstract, Electroacoustic
Type … FLAC Lossless

««Chromatic Travels» explores the birth of light and colours in parallel with the infinite journey of Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 beyond the borders of the solar system. This series of studies in electroacoustic music express the mystery of our universe at the core of unknown.

Heliopause: Heliopause was by pure chance finished composing the very day the news was given Voyager 1 had officially crossed the heliopause, the border of the solar system. I was very touched by this coincidence since this piece precisely expressed the journey of the Voyager space probes mission and their journey through the heliopause, the last edge before the interstellar regions.

Siralia: As soon as I had the news about Voyager 1 entrance in interstellar space, I composed this second piece expressing the mystery of this new journey in the unknown side the little space probe was the first human ship to explore it. For me, this was a great source of emotion since through Voyager 1, it is a part of mankind who now explores these regions of universe. The title comes from the name of the double star Sirius, one of of our «close» neighbours in the galaxy. It also refers to Stockhausen’s opera entitled “Sirus” as a poetic echo.

Study Of Black Matter: Our universe is supposed to be partly composed of a mysterious substance, invisible and exactly inverse to matter: black matter. This piece explores the spiritual essence of this substance as a secret inner light non one can feel, and as the source of all vision, light and colours experience veiled by this enigmatic reality.

Study Of White Matter: In this piece I imagined black matter’s core is composed of an enigmatic white matter, the white being the chromatic source of every colour.

Chromata: Chromata explores the birth of colours out of light, the opening of life and beauty through this mysterious source.

Monochromies: Monochromies are supposed to be one single colour objects, for instance in painting. Here the monochrome essence becomes secretly a principle of infinite chromatic creation, a symbol of the deep mystery of everything.

This album ends with a composition dedicated to the French electroacoustic music Bernard Parmegiani, one of my favourites, who died the 21th of November 2013. He had composed a long piece untitled «Creation of the World». My own composition is a ritual to celebrate him and accompany him to the mysterious border where the encounter with the white spiritual substance of everything begins. It is a way to end this album with a journey of soul in the unknown of the infinite.»

Kolpakopf – «And Death Shall Have No Dominion»

Kolpakopf - «And Death Shall Have No Dominion»Cat.# … DNA 159
Release Date … 07.07.2014
Genre … Dark Ambient
Type … FLAC Lossless

«And death shall have no dominion», Dylan Thomas said. Snatches of indistinct tunes, that humming in the head when bitter words are said and heard, and despair comes in stead of anxiety… Kolpakopf was there with his wordless hymn to fallen and reborn. In pains of loss he fell and then arose, another man. Some scars are left deep in the heart but who cares. When cries are over, just stand up! You, man who shall never be the same henceforth.

«Faith in their hands shall snap in two, And the unicorn evils run them through; Split all ends up they shan’t crack», that Welshman said. In clinking hum Kolpakopf answers: «And death shall have no dominion». Stop crying, live your life until you’re alive, a man with bleeding heart. Pain will be soothed, scars will be healed when doomed one passes away. Now you know that death shall have no dominion.

Tracklisting:

  1. Kolpakopf – Untitled (25:00)
