Xalm Retribution – «Orbiter»

Xalm Retribution - «Orbiter»Cat.# … DNA 184
Release Date … 01.09.2016
Genre … Dark Ambient
Type … FLAC

In his new work «Orbiter» Xalm Retribution adds some new colours to his usual dark ambient palette, and all these colours are cold, very cold. Staying inside classic dark ambient borders, Xalm Retribution managed to utilize some elements typical to work of Massimo Magrini and late Akifumi Nakajima.

Now technogenous, inanimate, artificial sounds fill his vibrant soundscapes. In the waves of slow low-frequency pulsations, you can no longer find any industrial noises or guitar drones or something else you are used to find in straight dark ambient works. There are only electrical circuits’ music, singing induction coils, oxidized pins’ staccatos and conducting switches in the finally abandoned Solaris station. Shadows run their fingers over strings of crackling electrical wiring. Faulty сlimatic plants’ din fills dark corridors. Obscurity and desolation…

Tracklisting:

  1. Xalm Retribution – Path (07:47)
  2. Xalm Retribution – Noise (03:51)
  3. Xalm Retribution – Way (08:08)
  4. Xalm Retribution – Suit (04:36)

Flangeri – «Joy Of Restriction»

Flangeri - «Joy Of Restriction»Cat.# … DNA 183
Release Date … 12.07.2016
Genre … Drone
Type … FLAC

In Flangeri’s new work «Joy Of Restriction» melancholic and meditative improvisations are embodied of vibrant drones that look like river waves bringing myriads of flecks to the shore where you sit. Like the river waves, these drones never hasten and slowly reach their climax before calming down in multiple resonances. Covertly appearing behind the resonances, even and simple melody easily develops from the echoes of colliding drones, getting drown in their pulsatings. Growing in strength, the melody flies over waves of drones of various tonality and length. Reaching the peak in the second half of the more than 35 minutes long piece, the melody – or a pack of endlessly repeated melodies’ fragments – slowly dissolves in drones’ rhythmed breathing, and as the drones start to fade, they let the melody to fade with them as well.

Tracklisting:

  1. Flangeri – Joy Of Restriction (35:42)

Kolpakopf – «Indivisible Triplicity Of Death»

Kolpakopf - «Indivisible Triplicity Of Death»Cat.# … DNA 182
Release Date … 26.05.2016
Genre … Dark Ambient
Type … FLAC

It’s Kolpakopf again, and again his work touch on the subject of death. And again the work is inspired by literature, and again Kolpakopf get inspired by mystical Jorge Luis Borges.

In «Indivisible Triplicity Of Death» philosophical reflections about significance of death in the human perception metamorphose in chaotic waves of low-frequency noise swamping lifeless and deliberately minimalistic sound caverns. Arised there and sewn together in an anxious canvas, consonances, pieces of phrases and similar sets of anthropogenic sounds slowly emerge into a wall of noise and then disjoin at the peak of their intensity. Later they appear again in another form to arise and to fall eventually.

It looks like those changes in situations and in points of view in Jorge Luis Borges’ stories wherein half-words and allusions spawn layers of implication and force to overinterpret probable development of the action. And doubtless it force to continue author’s fantasies in someone’s own way. As Borges’ stories, Kolpakopf’s «Indivisible Triplicity Of Death» offers a few of detailed patterns and provoke to interpret them before the piece develops enough to show author’s original idea.

Recorded in 2015.

Tracklisting:

  1. Kolpakopf – Untitled (24:22)

System Morgue & iatemyself – «Split»

System Morgue & iatemyself - «Split»Cat.# … DNA 181
Release Date … 16.05.2016
Genre … Drone, Noise
Type … FLAC

Here is next System Morgue’s return to DNA Production, this time as a split work shared with another Moscow-based project iatemyself.

In his two-tracks part System Morgue fills up air with guitar drones where vibrating, shivering consonances mix with heavy breathing pulsations, and fragmentary sonic images comprise a sickly acoustic illusion occasionally teared by sound upsurges of distorted guitar neurasthenia. Sometimes it looks like a drift towards areas of guitar noise but in fact it happens in iatemyself’s three-tracks part where jumble of electrical interferences and distorted sounds boils up. This dense and physically perceived sonic cloud presses ears with low-frequency waves while high-frequency bursts split and lumps together this uneasy acoustic mass making visible its parts and then stepping back for a moment to let see the whole panorama of enraged sonic elements.

Tracklisting:

  1. System Morgue – Mourir de ne pas mourir (10:50)
  2. System Morgue – Jours de pluie (14:11)
  3. iatemyself – Guess I’ve Been There Before (03:07)
  4. iatemyself – Syntony (11:56)
  5. iatemyself – Whotoldyouthat (05:49)

MJDK – «Hymn»

MJDK - «Hymn»Cat.# … DNA 180
Release Date … 02.03.2016
Genre … Illbient, Dark Ambient, Industrial
Type … mp3 CBR 320 kbps

After a string of dark ambient works Polish project MJDK turns to something off-the-wall, crazy and eccentric. His «Hymn» looks eclectic enough in the combination of dark ambient canvases behind distorted electronic sounds with prolonged speeches and Scorn-like illbient loops. And the core of the work, more-than-fifteen-minutes Coil-inspired escapist track adds more diversity to this weird and somewhat unreal work.

«The song «Hymn» (Anthmen in Polish) is inspired by the French movie «La prochaine fois je viserai le coeur» (2014).
I love Phallus Dei music and courtesy of Mr. Oliver St. Lingam I could record a remix of the song «Will You Come Now».
«Filokles & Lykofron» is a tribute to the incredible project Coil. At all costs, I decided to record something in their style.
The song «London» was recorded during my stay in the capital of the United Kingdom.
«Inception» is a veritable frenzy with a speech of one of my philosophical guru Alan Watts.»

— Mateusz Jędrzejczak (MJDK)

«Will You Come Now (Phallus Dei)» by John Walker/Phallus Dei, remixed by MJDK.
«Inception», voice by Alan Watts.
Artwork by Hanka.

Tracklisting:

  1. MJDK – Hymn (02:29)
  2. MJDK – Will You Come Now (Phallus Dei) (07:23)
  3. MJDK – Filokles & Lykofron (Tribute to Coil) (15:37)

Cédric Elisabeth - «Timeless»Cat.# … DNA 179
Release Date … 08.02.2016
Genre … Ambient, Soundscape, Experimental

Variable melodies suddenly appear from nowhere and pierce supple soundscapes and noise layers. Later they slowly dissolve in the soundscapes to give birth to new consonances… Sonic illusions, deceptive images behind tangibly embossed human voices and vibrating strings tones. Awakening out of time, waiting and sound detection in the space around. Slow discovering nearest places, perception persistence accumulation, gradual incapsulation in own consciousness, fading activities, introspection, falling asleep…

This four-track work is fully builded on various combinations of sounds, noises, drones, melodies and spirits. It provokes associations, it consists of associations, it draws sonic pictures and impels listener to paint them with colors depending on his imagination.

Cover by Adam Ryde.

  2. Cédric Elisabeth – Horizon (11:13)
